Mumbai CMM Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Courts in Mumbai, originally known as Presidency Magistrate’s Courts or Police Courts, were established in 1810. With the implementation of the Criminal Procedure Code, of 1973, these courts were renamed Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Courts. The court building, designed under the supervision of Khan Bahadur Muncherjee Cowasjee Murzaban, has significant archaeological value. The construction began on 3 December 1884 and was completed on 31 December 1888. The first Chief Metropolitan Magistrate was Shri M.M. Dhruv, who served from 1972 to 1977.

As of 1st July 2024, following a notification by the Maharashtra Law & Judiciary Department, these courts have been renamed Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts, and Shri M.R.A. Shaikh is the first to hold the title of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mumbai. The court’s sanctioned strength is 75, spread across 16 court complexes in Mumbai, including Esplanade, Mazgaon, and Andheri.
