The District Judge and Magistrate Court Buildings (the old Treasury Building) were constructed in 1807. Mr. William Blunt was the District Judge and Magistrate at that time. Mr. Brajendra Kumar Sil served as the District Judge from 1881 to 1888, followed by Mr. G. W. Plash in 1889. Eminent I.C.S. Officer Mr. Annada Shankar Roy also held the position of District Judge from 1941 to 1943.
The present District Judge’s Court and the District Sub-Judge’s Court (now the Court of the Civil Judge, Senior Division) operate under the same roof, established in 1870. The Bar Association was established in 1855.
