After India’s independence in 1947 and the formation of Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 1956, West Nimar district came into existence. Khargone was chosen as the headquarters for administrative revenue, police, and government offices, while the District Court was established at Mandleshwar. Civil courts were also set up in Khargone, Kasrawad, Bhikangaon, Sanawad, Barwah, and Maheshwar. Mandleshwar, with its ancient history, was once part of the Mahishmati city, situated on the banks of the Narmada River.

The District Court in Mandleshwar was established in 1873 under British rule and was mentioned in the Indore State Gazetteer. Initially, the court operated from a British-era building, later shifting to a grand structure in 1977, inaugurated by Chief Justice Shivdayal Srivastava. Today, the District Court complex includes additional facilities like the District Consumer Forum, ADR Centre, and Family Court, set in a spacious campus with gardens.
