Phek is a district in the Southeastern part of Nagaland, bordered by Myanmar to the east and other districts in Nagaland and Manipur. Established as a separate district on 21 December 1973, it is primarily inhabited by the Chakhesang and Pochury tribes, with Phek serving as the district headquarters. The District Court Phek was set up in the same year, initially operating under the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The new Court Building Complex was completed in May 2016, housing the District and Sessions Court and Judicial Magistrate First Class Court.
The District Sessions Court functions under the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 and Civil Code Procedure 1908. It is designated as a Special Judge for NDPS and PC Act cases, among other roles. The court provides legal aid through the DLSA Office, which has extended 60 legal aid services to date. Currently, Shri Neiko Akami (NJS) presides over the District and Sessions Court, while Smti Holika Sukhalu holds an additional charge as Civil Judge (Jr. Div)/JMFC.
