The Kohima District Judiciary was established in 1977, with K.N. Tankha serving as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Ex-Officio Additional Deputy Commissioner (J). In 2008, this position was re-designated as Additional District & Sessions Judge, and currently, three Judicial Officers are posted at Kohima.
To ensure proper justice and the judicious disposal of cases, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India mandated the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive. Following this directive, several District & Sessions Judges have been appointed and posted to Kohima.
