Gwalior Court Recruitment 2025 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

The judicial system in Gwalior was distinct from British India, with Magistrates granted powers to impose sentences and Civil Judges appointed to handle civil cases. Judicial work, both civil and criminal, was overseen by the District Judge. Unlike the British system, the District Magistrate in Gwalior was in charge of criminal cases and the police, while the District Judge focused solely on civil matters. The Gwalior Darbar emphasized the speedy disposal of cases and took serious measures to avoid delays in justice.

Gwalior Court

From 1956 to January 1998, the District Court and a High Court bench were housed together in the same building at Jayendraganj, Gwalior. After 1998, the High Court moved to a new building at City Center, and the District and Sessions Court remained in the old structure. This historic building was initially constructed in the 1920s for educational purposes. Before 1936, both the High Court and subordinate courts operated in a building at Maharaj Bada, which now serves as a central library. The Gwalior State judicial system was notable for its separation of judicial and executive powers.
