The Kalahandi-Nuapada Judgeship was established on 28 February 1982 after being separated from the Bolangir-Kalahandi Judgeship. This marked the beginning of its independent judicial functioning. The formation of this Judgeship played a vital role in enhancing the judicial infrastructure of the Kalahandi region, ensuring better access to legal services for the residents of the region.
Subsequently, the Nuapada Judgeship was separated from the Kalahandi-Nuapada Judgeship on 7 July 2012, leading to the formation of a separate judicial district for Nuapada. This separation was part of an administrative reorganization to streamline judicial processes and improve legal access in the newly formed district.
