Narayanpet District, located 165 km from Hyderabad, was formerly known as Narayanapeta. The name was changed to Narayanpet on 4 December 1890, in honor of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, the Nizam of Hyderabad (1869-1911 AD). It has served as the district headquarters since 1883.

The Narayanpet District Court was established in 2022, with its headquarters previously being part of the Mahabubnagar District Court Complex. The District Court comprises the Principal District Court, one POCSO Court, one Senior Civil Judge Court, and three Junior Civil Judge Courts.
