The Gumla District Court was established in 1987, with Sri B.K. Dubey served as its first district judge. The court comprises three buildings: the Main Building, the Old Building (established in 1987), and the Fast Track Court Building (established in 2002). It operates under the jurisdiction of the Jharkhand High Court and currently has 17 sanctioned courts, including the PDJ Court, Family Court, and others.
Eleven courts are currently functioning. The court also features a Video Conferencing Studio, inaugurated in 2007, allowing remote hearings with the Mandal Jail. Additionally, Gumla Civil Court has a well-equipped Computer Cell under the e-Court project, with all systems connected to a centralized server, enabling online access to case information.
