Jamtara was the oldest sub-division of the Bihar judiciary (District- Dumka) before the bifurcation of Bihar and Jharkhand. Sri Anil Kumar Sinha assumed charge as its first Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate on 1st April 1974. Sri A. C. Das joined on 10 May 1979 as the first Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Jamtara. The Judgeship of Jamtara was established on 1 October 2001 and was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Sri S. J. Mukhopadhyaya, Judge of the Hon’ble High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, who later became a Judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
Sri Binay Kumar Sinha was appointed as the first District and Sessions Judge of Jamtara. The new civil court building in Jamtara was inaugurated on 2nd August 2009 by Hon’ble Justice Mrs. Gyan Sudha Mishra, the then Chief Justice of the Hon’ble High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, who is currently serving as a Judge in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
