Sabarkantha District was established in 1976 and is located along the Sabarmati River. It shares borders with Rajasthan to the northeast, Banaskantha and Mehsana districts to the west, Gandhinagar to the south, and Aravalli District to the southeast. The district’s headquarters, Himmatnagar, is about 60 kilometers from Gujarat’s capital and 78 kilometers from Ahmedabad.

According to the latest census, Sabarkantha has a population of approximately 14,73,673, with a significant portion belonging to tribal and socially challenged communities. The district includes eight talukas: Himmatnagar, Prantij, Talod, Idar, Vadali, Khedbrahma, Vijaynagar, and Poshina.

On the judicial front, the District and Sessions Court of Sabarkantha began operations on 10 December 1976, following the separation from Ahmedabad. Shri C.G. Rathod was appointed as the first District Judge of Sabarkantha.
