Simdega Judgeship was established on 1 October 2001 as per Memorandum No. 1550/J. Ranchi, dated 24 September 2001 issued by the Principal Secretary, Law Department, Government of Jharkhand. The first Administrative Judge of Simdega Judgeship was Hon’ble Justice D.N. Prasad, while the inaugural District & Sessions Judge was Shri Hari Bhushan Prasad Sinha.
The Judgeship has eight courtrooms, a medical dispensary, a biometric system, and solar panels as well as a special investigation prosecution unit. The current Administrative Judge is Hon’ble Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary. The District Legal Services Authority and Permanent Lok Adalat Simdega operate from the old court building.
