The emergence of the court and legal profession in the Warhad province began in 1853, with the British court system introducing the practice of lawyers. Though court buildings were constructed between 1860 and 1900, the courts operated in temporary locations like schools and private buildings. By 1886, the Small Cause Court was housed in the S.D.O. building, and the final appellate court was in Hyderabad, while Amravati had a Judicial Commissioner’s Court. When Warhad was merged with Madhya Pradesh in 1906, Amravati’s court was closed, and Nagpur’s Judicial Commissioner’s Court took over.

In the late 19th century, Amravati’s legal scene grew, with about 40 lawyers practicing between 1870 and 1884. Prominent figures included Shri Mudholkar, Shri Pralhadpant Jo, and Shri Alshi, who served as Municipal and Assistant Commissioners between 1885 and 1890. Well-known lawyers like Mr. Bhausaheb Asanare were influential during earlier times, with more recent names such as Mr. Rajabhau Gokhale and Mr. Akarte.
