Jhunjhunu, an ancient and historic town, serves as the district headquarters and holds a significant place in Rajasthan‘s history. It is believed to have been ruled by the Chouhan dynasty during the Vikram era in 1045. Situated 180 km from Jaipur and 245 km from Delhi, the town is renowned for the stunning frescoes adorning its grand havelis, which are a hallmark of the Shekhawati region. Jhunjhunu is also known for its commendable contribution to the Indian defense forces. The district derives its name from a Jat leader, either “Jhunjha” or “Jujhar Singh Nehra.” Covering an area of 5,926 sq. km, the district recorded a population of 2,139,658 in the 2011 census, with a population density of 361 persons per sq. km. Geographically, it is bounded by Haryana in the northeast and east, Sikar district in the southeast, south, and southwest, and Churu district in the northwest and north.

The district has a rich judicial history, with the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Court established in 1951, followed by the District Court in 1952. Until 1976, the judicial administration of Sikar was linked with Jhunjhunu, with a single District and Sessions Judge overseeing both districts. In 1976, Sikar was assigned its own District and Sessions Judge, paving the way for the establishment of additional courts in subsequent years. This development strengthened the judicial framework of Jhunjhunu and enhanced access to justice for its residents.
