The Hadoti region, where Bundi is located, is named after the Hada Rajputs, who were descendants of the Chauhan clan. The Hadas settled in the area in the 12th century, with Bundi being conquered by them in 1241 and Kota in 1264. At its peak, Bundi ruled over the present-day districts of Baran, Bundi, Kota, and Jhalawar. Although Bundi lost territory over time, especially in 1579 and 1838, it remained an independent state during British rule and later became part of India post-independence in 1947.

Bundi’s legal system evolved over the years, with codified laws introduced as early as 1880. Initially, the Mulki Haqim court held significant power, while local Panchayat courts operated at the village level. Major reforms began in 1898, and by 1936, a High Court was established in Bundi. Further legal advancements included the establishment of Munsif courts in 1942 and the creation of a District & Sessions Judge court in 1977.
