The District and Sessions Court at Kondagaon was inaugurated on 23 October 2013 by Shri Shiv Mangal Pandey, District and Sessions Judge, Bastar. Shri Vinay Kumar Kashyap was appointed as the first Sessions Judge of Kondagaon district. Kondagaon is located between 19.6 degrees north and 81.67 degrees east. Kondagaon district, located in Bastar division, shares its borders with Bastar, South Bastar Kanker, and Narayanpur districts. It was designated as a revenue sub-division in 1965. In the past, during the princely period, Kondagaon was under Hatia, then Shampur, and later Sonabal Pargana.
During a gathering of senior persons at the Hanuman temple, a Bastar state official suggested that it would be more appropriate to refer to the area as Kondagaon rather than Kondanar. The civil district of Kondagaon comprises the civil courts of Narayanpur and Keshkal, where judges of the first and second class preside.
