Balod is a town situated on the banks of the Tandula River, located 44 km from Dhamtari, 58 km from Durg, and 56 km from Rajnandgaon. Nearby, there are two dams, Tandula and Aadmabaad, which were constructed in 1913 on the Sukha and Tandula rivers. Balod was established as the 19th district of Chhattisgarh.
The District and Sessions Court at Balod was inaugurated on 2 October 2013 by Mr Justice Sunil Kumar Sinha, Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court. Shri Justice P. Sam Kosi serves as Portfolio Judge of Balod District Court. Shri Deepak Kumar Tiwari has assumed the role of the first District and Sessions Judge.
