Raipur was established as a civil district in 1917, marking the beginning of District and Sessions Judges presiding over the Raipur office. Before this, in 1886, a civil judge was appointed in Raipur under the Central Provinces Civil Court Act. After the formation of the new state of Chhattisgarh on 1 November 2000, Raipur was named as its capital. The High Court was established at Bilaspur, and since 1 November 2000, the District Court Raipur has been operating under the jurisdiction of the Hon’ble Chhattisgarh High Court.
At present, four outlying courts are operating under the jurisdiction of Raipur District Court, namely Gariaband, Rajim, Devbhog, and Tilda. Family Court Raipur Bhavan was inaugurated on 7 May 2004 in the presence of respected judges of Chhattisgarh High Court. The Computer Center was inaugurated on 24 September 2005 by Honorable Shri Justice Y.K., Judge of the Supreme Court of India. It was done by Sabharwal. The video conferencing room was inaugurated on 4 September 2007 by Honorable Shri Justice S.B. Sinha, Shri Justice R.V. Raveendran, both judges of the Supreme Court of India, and Mr Justice Jagadish Bhalla, Chief Justice of the High Court. Chhattisgarh.
Recently, on 10 May 2013, the construction of an extension building for the District Court of Raipur was approved by the Hon’ble Shri Justice Satish K., Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The foundation stone was laid by Agnihotri. Currently construction work is going on.
