During the British colonial period from 1854 to 1864, Baloda Bazar and Tarenga (Bhatapara) were part of Raipur district. Later, in 1864, these areas became part of Bilaspur district. Due to administrative challenges, they were given district status by the British authorities in 1903, with the tehsil headquarters shifted from Simga to Baloda Bazar. Since then, development blocks like Simga, Bhatapara, Baloda Bazar, Palari, Kasdol and Bilaigarh have been included in it. In 1982, some of these blocks were given the status of separate tehsils.
From the administrative point of view, during the British period, infrastructure like rest house, Church, Hospital,s, and residential buildings were established in Parsabhader village (Mission), located 2 km from Baloda Bazaar. In 1920, under the Sanitation Act, a Panchayat was established in Baloda Bazaar. After independence in 1949, Baloda Bazar was designated as a Gram Panchayat under the Local Government Act.
The District and Sessions Court of Balodabazar was inaugurated on 2 October 2013 by Smt. Rajni Dubey, District and Sessions Judge. Civil district Balodabazar consists of civil courts at Bhatapara, Simga, and Kasdol. Additional District and Sessions Judges, as well as First and Second Class Judges, preside over civil courts at Bhatapara, Kasdol, and Simga respectively.
