The Chirang district is one of the newly formed judicial districts in the state of Assam. The Hon’ble Gauhati High Court has approved the proposal for temporarily accommodating the judicial courts in the Agriculture Guest House at Chirang.
Chirang district is one among the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) under the Government of Assam, created as per notification No. GAG (B). 137/ 2002/ Pt/ 117 dated 30 October 2003 within Assam under Clause 6 of Article 332 by the 90th Amendment Act, 2003 of the Constitution of India under the provision of the Sixth Schedule. The district has been functioning since 4 June 2004. It was carved out of the districts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Barpeta. Kajalgaon serves as the district headquarters.
