West Siang District, headquartered in Aalo, is bordered to the North by China, to the East by Upper Siang & Siang districts, to the South by Lower Siang & Assam, and to the West by Upper Subansiri & Lower Subansiri districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Home to various tribes like Galo, Minyong, Bori, Bokar, Pailibo, Ramos, and Memba, it serves as a natural habitat for numerous orchid species, diverse flora & fauna, and lush vegetation. With a range of climatic and geographical variations, the district enjoys a moderate and pleasant climate.
The District and Sessions Court, Aalo, was established in June 2019 and commenced operations from the former building of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs, Aalo, West Siang District. Mr. Gote Mega served as the first District and Sessions Judge of West Siang from 25 June 2019 to 13 June 2022. The court’s territorial jurisdiction extends to West Siang District and Shi-Yomi District, while its administrative jurisdiction encompasses Upper Subansiri, Leparada, Shi-Yomi, and West Siang Districts. Before the establishment of the District and Sessions Court in West Siang, the Additional District and Sessions Court in Basar oversaw the entire region.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Senior Division) Court, formerly known as the District Court, West Siang, was inaugurated on December 21, 1990, by the then Honorable Minister of P.W.D, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Todak Basar. Situated in Aalo, Arunachal Pradesh, this court’s territorial jurisdiction spans Shi-Yomi, Leparada, and West Siang Districts. Legal aid services are provided through the District Legal Aid Services Authority (DLSA), West Siang District, with its office located in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Senior Division), West Siang District. The National Lok Adalat, held at regular intervals under the District Legal Aid Services Authority (DLSA), West Siang, facilitates amicable settlements for disputes/cases pending in court or at the pre-litigation stage.
