Lunglei Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

Before Mizoram gained the status of Autonomous District Council in 1952, it was known as the Lushai Hills and was ruled by chiefs. These chiefs had complete authority to administer justice to their subjects, handle both criminal and civil cases, and even decide on punishments, including capital punishment. In 1952, Mizoram (formerly Lushai Hills) gained the status of Autonomous District Council. To streamline the administration within the Lushai Hills, the Lushai Hills Autonomous District (Administration of Justice) Rules, 1953 were framed under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India on 7 April 1953.

Lunglei Court

This led to the establishment of various courts including:

  •  Village courts in every recognized village in Mizoram.
  •  Subordinate District Council courts in Aizawl and Lunglei, along with additional Subordinate courts.
  •  District Council court in Aizawl.
  •  In Lunglei, the Subordinate Court and Additional Subordinate Court were established, along with one additional Subordinate court at Tlabung (Demagiri), which collectively administered justice in the Lunglei District.

In 1953, the Pawi-Lakher Autonomous District was created, and its courts were responsible for dispensing justice in the region. In 1989, the position of Additional District Magistrate (Judicial), abbreviated as ADM(J), was introduced, marking the first instance of a Judicial Officer solely handling judicial functions in Lunglei. Until 2008, one Judicial Officer in the Subordinate District Council court and one Additional Subordinate court in Lunglei oversaw the justice delivery system in the district.

In 2008, the judicial system was separated from the Executive, leading to the formation of the Lunglei Judicial District, comprising Lunglei District, Saiha District, and Lawngtlai District. In essence, one Judicial District was established for the aforementioned three districts, known as the Lunglei Judicial District.
