The Morigaon Court was established in the year 1972 as a Sub-Divisional Judicial Court, and it was upgraded to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in 1989. The foundation stone of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court was laid on 2 October 1987 by the Honorable Chief Minister Mr. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. It was inaugurated on 30 April 1989 by Honorable Mr. Justice A. Raghubir, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Sri F. Hussain, BSc, LL.B. was the first Chief Judicial Magistrate of Morigaon court. He assumed office on 2 May 1990 and served until 24 May 1993. The Munsiff No-1 court was established in 1972, and Munsiff No-2 Court was established in 1981.
The District & Sessions Judge Court in Morigaon was established in 1992. The District & Sessions Judge Court building was inaugurated by the Honorable District & Sessions Judge, Nagaon Sri. P.C. Borpujari. Honorable Judge Sri. T.C. Basumatary, M.A. LL.B was the first District & Sessions Judge of Morigaon Court.
He assumed office on 20 April 1992 and served until 9 January 1996. After some years, it was deemed necessary to increase the number of courts, resulting in the construction of the Additional Court Building, which was inaugurated on 21 February 2004 by Honorable Mr. Justice P.P. Naolekar, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
