The District Munsif Court was established under section 9 of the Village Courts Act I of 1889 in Vizianagaram as one of the taluks of Vizagapatam District of Madras Presidency. Following the formation of Vizianagaram Revenue District in 1979, the District Court, Vizianagaram was established in 1981. Sri D. Ramalingaswamy served as the first District Judge.
Currently, there are 34 courts operating in the entire district, including 7 District & Sessions Courts, 4 Senior Civil Judge’s Courts, 14 Junior Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate of First Class Courts, 1 District Legal Service Authority, 1 Permanent Lok Adalat, and 7 Special Judicial Magistrate of II-Class Courts, spread across 9 different court complexes.
