The District & Sessions Court Complex in Diu is situated on the main highway of Diu-Vanakbara, facing the Arabian Sea to the South. The court building is surrounded by a serene court campus, creating an auspicious ambiance. Initially, the Court of the Civil Judge (Junior Division) & Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Diu fell under the jurisdiction of the District & Sessions Court, North Goa, at Panaji. Following Goa’s attainment of statehood, it continued under the jurisdiction of the same court until the establishment of the new District Court for the Union Territories of Daman and Diu in 1991.
Since then, the Hon’ble High Court Bombay has designated a Registrar to hold sessions in Diu once every three months for three days until 2005. Subsequently, in 2005, a court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, covering Daman and Diu, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, was established. Another court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, specifically for Diu, was inaugurated in 2011. Additionally, there is a Court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge and Civil Judge (Senior Division) & Chief Judicial Magistrate in Diu.
Both the District & Sessions Court and the Civil & Criminal Court operate within the new building of the District & Sessions Court Complex, constructed in 2001, ensuring efficient legal proceedings for the residents of Diu.
