In the pre-Independence era, Ramanagara town was under the governance of the British officer “Sir Barry Close” (1756-1813), hence it was formerly known as Closepet. Later, it was renamed Ramanagara by the former Chief Minister of Karnataka State, Sri Kengal Hanumanthaiah. Another notable figure, Sri Kempegowda, hails from Magadi taluk in Ramanagara District. The district, previously part of Bengaluru Rural District, was reconstituted in 2007 with Ramanagara as its headquarters, comprising three other taluks: Channapatna, Kanakapura, and Magadi.
The District and Sessions Court Ramanagara was established on 1 October 2007, following the district’s formation after the Bengaluru Rural District was divided into Bengaluru Rural and Ramanagara districts.
In Ramanagara Court Complex, various courts began functioning initially, including the court of Senior Civil Judge, CJM, and JMFC. Over time, additional courts like Addl. Civil Judge and JMFC were established, along with the Prl. District and Sessions Court, I Addl. District and Sessions Court, and III Addl. District and Sessions Court.
Similar setups were established in Channapatna, Kanakapura, and Magadi Court complexes, with various courts gradually added to serve the legal needs of the respective areas.
