The revenue district of Ukhrul used to be a part of the former judicial district of Manipur East. The court of CJM, Ukhrul and Civil Judge (Jr. Div)/JMFC Ukhrul fell under the jurisdiction of the District & Sessions Judge, Manipur East. In the later part of 2015, Ukhrul District was established as a full-fledged judicial district. However, it continued to be under the jurisdiction of the District and Sessions Judge, Imphal East, which was formed after redesignating the District & Sessions Judge, Manipur East. The District and Session Court, Ukhrul was inaugurated on 16 January 2016. Shri N. Rajnikanta Singh, MJS, became the first District & Sessions Judge of Ukhrul.
