Erstwhile, Chamarajanagar was merged with Mysore District. In the year 1997, Mysore District was bifurcated into two districts namely, Mysore District and Chamarajanagar District. Chamarajanagar District was formed in the year 1997 and it is located at the southern end of the Karnataka State bordering Tamil Nadu State. Chamarajanagar district consists of four taluks namely, Chamarajanagar Taluk, Kollegal Taluk, Yelandur Taluk, and Gundlupet Taluk. To the west is Gundlupet Taluk and to the east are Kollegal and Yelandur Taluk. Chamarajanagar District Court was set up on 25 October 2004. There are a total of 13 courts in this unit.
The District and Sessions Court at Chamarajanagar was inaugurated on 25 September 2004 by the then Chief Justice of Karnataka, Honorable Shri Justice N.K.Jain. Who laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new District Court building? The then Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court – was Hon’ble Shri Justice Cyriac Joseph and the Chief Guest of the function was Hon’ble Shri M. Shivanna, Members of Parliament were the guests of honor. The foundation stone of the new District Court building was laid by His Excellency Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph. The District Court started functioning in the new building on 01.12.2017. It was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Justice P.D. Dinakaran, Chief Justice of Karnataka on 9 May 2010; And Honorable Shri Justice A.S.Pachapure was the Administrative Judge of Chamarajanagar District.
