The newly inaugurated court building in Kamrup district is located in Amingaon. Amingaon holds historical significance as it sits near the banks of the Brahmaputra River, where the renowned Battle of Saraighat occurred between the Ahom and the Mughals in 1671. Amingaon, a small industrial town, is separated from Guwahati city by the Brahmaputra River. It has served as the headquarters of Kamrup district since its establishment in 2009. The Kamrup (Metro) district, however, has its headquarters in Guwahati.
On 19 February 2014, the Honorable Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Mr. Abhay Manohar Sapre, inaugurated the newly established judicial court in Amingaon. Mr. Naba Kamal Bora was appointed as the first District & Sessions Judge of Kamrup District, while Mr. Rokta Lal Das assumed the position of the first Assistant District & Sessions Judge. Mr. Syed Imdadur Rahman was appointed as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate, and Mr. Rana Dutta took on the role of the first Munsiff cum Judicial Magistrate 1st Class of Kamrup District. Additionally, Smti Rashmita Das was appointed as the first Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup District in March 2014.
