The Karimganj District is located in the southernmost part of the state of Assam in Northeast India. The three neighboring districts, namely Karimganj, Cachar, and Hailakandi constitute Barak Valley, named after the river Barak. Karimganj town, the headquarters of the Karimganj District, is the second-largest town in the Barak Valley. The River Kushiara branches off from the River Barak and flows out of Karimganj, forming an international border separating Assam and Bangladesh. The total area of the district is 1809 sq. km.
Currently, there are 11 courts in the Karimganj District, serving a population of 10,07,976 with a literacy rate of 67.21% as per the 2001 census, under the judgeship of the District & Sessions Judge, Karimganj. All the Civil Courts, including the Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge (F.T.C.), are housed in the court complex of the District & Sessions Judge.
