Sri Mukatsar Sahib Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

In 1704, Anandpur was under a prolonged siege by the combined forces of the Mughals and the hill chiefs. Provisions had depleted entirely, and the Khalsa survived on leaves and tree bark. The Jats from the Majha region decided to return home. However, the Guru insisted they sign a disclaimer renouncing their allegiance to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji before leaving. Out of numerous Sikhs, only forty agreed to this condition and were allowed to depart Anandpur. This incident occurred during the eight-month siege of Sri Anandpur Sahib, where approximately 10,000 Sikh Soldiers under the leadership of the 10th Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, inflicted a devastating defeat upon the one million Mughals who had besieged the holy city. Most of the Hill Rajas fought alongside the Mughal Imperial Army, except for a few groups.

The forty deserters settled in the Majha region, within the Amritsar district. In one of their villages, Jabal resided a courageous woman named Mai Bhago. Renowned for her faith and bravery, she was deeply committed to serving the Guru. She was outraged by the cowardice of those who, defeated by the prolonged siege of Anandpur, renounced Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji to return home. Mai Bhago condemned these deserters for their lack of courage and faith. Determined to erase this disgrace from the Majha Singhs, she rallied the womenfolk of neighboring villages, urging them not to welcome or support the deserters who had disavowed the Guru. Mai Bhago reproached and shamed the Singhs for their cowardly actions, eventually leading them back to the path of devotion and sacrifice. Disguised in men’s clothing, she inspired them to recommit to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Overwhelmed with shame for their previous cowardice, they rallied behind her and participated in the historic battle of Sri Sri Mukatsar Sahib Sahib, fought against the Mughal forces at Khidrana in the Ferozepur district.
