District Deoria is one of the Eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh, established in 1946. The name “Deoria” is believed to be derived from ‘Devaranya’ or perhaps ‘Devpuria’, as indicated in official records. Deoria typically signifies a place abundant with temples, with its name originating from a ruined Shiva Temple alongside the Kurna River in the north.

The District & Session Judge’s Courts were established on 12 September 1946, previously being under the administrative jurisdiction of the District Judge Gorakhpur. Before the establishment of the District & Sessions Judge’s Court, only the Civil and Sessions Judge’s Court existed. Upon its establishment, Sri Chandra Prakash Sharma was appointed as the first District & Session Judge of Deoria.
