Ayodhya Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

The official name of Faizabad Court has now been changed to “District and Sessions Court Ayodhya” after Faizabad was renamed as Ayodhya in 2018. The Court’s jurisdiction and location remain the same; only the official name has been updated to reflect the city’s new identity as Ayodhya.

Ayodhya Court

Faizabad Court’s history is deeply rooted in the Avadh region. During the era of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, Faizabad’s judicial system was managed by the Nazims of Sultanpur, where Chakledars handled revenue collection, and each pargana had a Faujdar assisted by a Dewan, a qanoongo, and other officials. After the British took control in 1858, they began implementing their administrative structure.

The Commissioner became the chief of Revenue, Police, and Judicial matters in the division, while the Deputy Commissioner held similar powers at the district level. In 1871, the Oudh Civil Courts Act reorganized these courts, and by 1879, the Civil Courts were separated from Revenue and Criminal Courts, establishing the offices of Munsiffs, Subordinate Judges, and District Judges. Sri H.C. Ghoshal became the first District Judge of Faizabad on 1st July 1947, marking the beginning of its modern judicial history.
