Kolhapur Judicial District boasts a rich history, with its first court established in 1844 by the rulers. The princely state had its own High Court and Supreme Court. The District Court was set up in 1867, with the eminent jurist Late Shri. Mahadev Govind Ranade serving as the first District Judge. The old District Court building is over 150 years old.

Construction of the new building, “Nyayasankul,” began in 2009 and was inaugurated on 7 February 2016. Built to high standards, Nyayasankul features 36 court halls, allied offices, and a well-equipped library on the 2nd to 4th floors. The ground floor houses the Advocate Bar, Public Prosecutor, E-Center, and a canteen, all centered around a central fountain.
