Koraput district, formed on 1 April 1936 along with other districts during the formation of Odisha, is located in the southern part of the state. The Court of the District & Sessions Judge was established in Jeypore on 1 January 1953 as per Notification No. 10225 dated 17 December 1952 by the Odisha Government’s Law Department. Shri Anantaram Guru was appointed as the first District Judge. Additionally, the Court of Munsif-cum-SDJM in Jeypore was set up on the same date under various government notifications.
The original Koraput district was later divided into four separate districts: Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput. New judgeships were created in these districts between 2011 and 2013. The Permanent Lok Adalat and an Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre are operational in Jeypore, with the latter inaugurated on 21 April 2013. A Judicial Service Centre with a Computer Server Room has been serving litigants since 6 August 2012, providing updated court proceedings.
