The District & Sessions Court at Osmanabad has a rich historical background. Before Independence, Osmanabad was part of Naldurg District under Hyderabad State during the Nizamshahi period. At that time, the District & Sessions Court operated from Naldurg. After reorganization, Osmanabad became part of the Marathwada region, and the District & Sessions Court was established there. The foundation stone of the present Court building at Osmanabad was laid on 8th February 1964 (19 Magh 1885) by the Hon’ble Shri H.K. Chainani, I.C.S., the then Chief Justice of Maharashtra. The building was inaugurated by Shri S.P. Kotwal, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Bombay High Court on 21st January 1967 (Paush Shuddha 10, 1888).

The powers of the District & Sessions Court at Naldurg were later merged with the newly established Court at Osmanabad. The first District and Sessions Judge of Osmanabad was Usman Jaffer Sahib, at that time about 12-15 advocates were practising. The old court was initially located in an area now known as Tuljabhawani Stadium. Historical records dating back to 1325 Fasli are preserved in the central record room, reflecting the long-term judicial importance of the court in the region. The court has been playing an essential role in the legal landscape of Osmanabad, dispensing justice since its inception till date.
