The District and Sessions Court at Beed has been functioning since 1889, preserving civil appeal records from the same year. Historically, Beed was known as “Bhir” and “Champavati-Nagri.” Before independence, the court was presided over by British judges, who punished many freedom fighters. In 1948, the district was freed from Nizam’s rule by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through military action. Beed is renowned as a hub of freedom fighters and sugarcane-cutter labor.

Beed is also rich in cultural and religious heritage. The Godavari River flows along its border, and the Parli-Vaijnath Jyotirlinga is located here. The Kankaleshwar temple, built by Queen Champavati, is a notable landmark in Beed. Ambajogai, once known as Mominabad, is home to the poet Mukundraj and the famous Jogai (Devi) temple. The district also houses Dharur Fort, a key business center for gold since 1658, showcasing Beed’s deep historical roots.
