The District Court of Dhule was established in 1860 by the British Government. Before this, Arthur St. George Richardson managed judicial matters in the region. Notable figures such as Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade, who served as Assistant Judge from 1880-1881, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who visited the court, are linked to its history. Dhule, once part of the ancient Rasika region, was later known as Khandesh under the Yadavas and Faruqi kings. Originally encompassing Dhule, Jalgaon, and parts of Nashik, Khandesh was divided in 1906 into West Khandesh and East Khandesh.

After the reorganization of states in 1956, West Khandesh became part of Maharashtra, and in 1961, it was renamed Dhule. In 1998, Dhule was divided into two districts: Dhule and Nandurbar, with Nandurbar Judicial District formed in 2013. Dhule Judicial District today houses various courts, including District and Sessions Court, Civil Judge courts, and specialized courts like Labour and Family Courts.
