Alwar State was established as an independent entity by Rao Pratap Singh, who raised his standard over Alwar Fort on 25 November 1775. He integrated various regions like Rajgarh, Malakhera, and Ramgarh to consolidate the state. His successor, Maharao Raja Bakhtawar Singh, further expanded the territory, assisting Lord Lake in defeating the Marathas during the Battle of Laswari. Alwar became the first princely state to sign a treaty with the East India Company in 1803. However, the administration was weak, with financial mismanagement and rampant lawlessness.

Under Maharao Raja Viney Singh (1815-1857), reforms began, including the establishment of revenue systems and courts. Subsequent rulers faced challenges of mismanagement and rebellions. British intervention introduced councils and improved governance. A District and Sessions Court was later established in Alwar in 1951, marking significant progress in the judicial system.
