Mizoram is located in the northeastern part of India, with Aizawl considered its administrative and capital center. The state’s name finds its roots in “Mizo”, which refers to the indigenous population, and “Ram”, which refers to “land” in the Mizo language. As a result, “Mizo-Ram” translates to “land of the Mizos”. Mizoram hosts a total of 8 District Courts.
The Gauhati High Court was established on 1 March 1948, under the auspices of the Governor-General of India, following the enactment of the Government of India Act 1935. This Act marked the beginning of the formation of the High Court, which officially began. It became operational on 5 April 1948, providing supplies to the then Assam province. In terms of jurisdiction, it exercises influence over the largest geographical expanse, encompassing the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram.
