Basti Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

Before the formation of Basti district in 1865, it was part of the Gorakhpur Collectorate and Judgeship. At that time, an honorary magistrate bench of six members would sit at Basti headquarters to hear criminal cases from the police circles of Basti, Kalwari, Rudauli, Sonha, Boodha Bandh, and Barakoni. These magistrates had Class II powers in the presence of the King of Basti and Class III powers in his absence. The appellate court was in Gorakhpur, while session cases were tried by the Sessions Judge of Jaunpur.

In 1886, the Munsif Court was established at Basti for civil cases. In 1887, the Munsif Court at Bansi was set up, covering areas like Bansi, Dumariyaganj, and parts of Mahuli Purab. In 1902, 56 village Munsifs were appointed, and honorary magistrates were added. The bench of six magistrates at Basti continued to hear cases from various police circles.

In 1945, Basti became an independent Judgeship, and a District & Sessions Judge was appointed. The courts of Munsif Khalilabad (1946) and Munsif Naugarh (1976) followed.
