During British rule, Bahraich became a judicial hub with courts of Civil and Sessions Judges, as well as two munsifs working under the Gonda Judgeship. By 1953, Bahraich became a separate judgeship, addressing the district’s growing caseload with additional courts.

Earlier, a Subordinate Judge was based in Bahraich, supported by honorary magistrates, including local estate holders. In 1975, more courts of Additional Munsifs were added to handle the rising number of cases.
