The Judgeship of Jehanabad was established on 30 November 1992, having been carved out from the Sessions Division of Gaya. Before this, the administrative setup included Sub Divisional Courts in Jehanabad, where the District headquarters were established in 1986. Jehanabad is located 48 kilometers from Patna and 50 kilometers from Gaya.

The Sessions Division at Jehanabad was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bimal Chandra Basak, the then Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Satya Brat Sinha on 30 November 1992. Since its inception, the Jehanabad Judgeship has seen 14 Judges. The first District & Sessions Judge of Jehanabad was Sri Kunjal Sai Miro Toppo, who served from 30 November 1992 to 30 September 1995. Currently, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh-I has been serving as the District & Sessions Judge of Jehanabad since 14 December 2021.
