Designed by M/s Stevenson & Company, the architecture commemorated the visit of England’s future emperor, George V, to Indore. Located on the Saraswati and Khan streams, now reduced to municipal drains, Indore was founded in 1715 as a trading post on the Narmada River valley route.

Indore derives its name from the Indreshwar Temple, built in 1741. Once the capital of the Indore Princely State under the Holkars, it also served as the summer capital of Madhya Bharat from 1948 to 1956. Today, Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh and a significant center for commerce, industry, education, and culture, uniquely housing both an Indian Institute of Technology and an Indian Institute of Management.
