In the early 19th century, Narsinghpur district, then called “Gadariya Kheda”, was under the Maratha Bhosale Maharajas of Nagpur. Later a Jat leader captured the area and built a large temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha, from which the city got its name. In 1818, the district was ceded to the British Raj and became part of the Nerbudda (Narmada) Division of the Central Provinces, eventually becoming part of Madhya Pradesh after India’s independence in 1947.

The Narsinghpur Court was established on 1 January 1970, with District Judge Shri R.C. Khare being the first appointed. Many eminent judges have served here, including Shri K.K. Verma, Shri G.K. Kulshreshtha, Shri V.M. Tandon and Smt. Shipra Sharma. In 2020, a new court building was virtually inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Sanjay Yadav and Hon’ble Justice Mohammad Fahim Anwar. This fully air-conditioned building has four floors, providing advanced facilities for judicial proceedings.
