Mandla spans 133 km from north to south and 182 km from east to west, covering an area of 8,771 sq. km with a population of 779,414. The district consists of 9 blocks, 6 tehsils, and 1,247 villages. Following the reorganization of Madhya Pradesh, the district was bifurcated, forming the separate Dindori district, which includes Dindori, Shahpura tehsils, and the Mehandwani development block, while the rest remains in Mandla.
