The District Court of Suryapet was established on 2 June 2022 and currently oversees 12 courts, including 3 District Courts, 1 Fast Track Court, 2 Senior Civil Judge Courts, and 6 Junior Civil Judge Courts, along with the District Legal Services Authority. The Suryapet Judicial District, carved out from the erstwhile Nalgonda District, also includes taluka courts at Kodad, Huzurnagar, and Thungathurthy. Sri B. Gautam Prasad served as the first District and Sessions Judge. Historically, Suryapet played a significant role in the Telangana Armed Struggle against the Razakars and is now a rapidly growing region with thriving cement industries.

Phanigiri, located 40 km from Suryapet, is an important Buddhist site discovered during excavations by the Telangana Archaeology Department. Set atop Serpent’s Hood Hill, named for its resemblance to a snake’s hood, this site features a massive stupa, halls with smaller stupas, and three viharas that housed Buddhist monks. It is believed to hold the footprints of Lord Buddha, highlighting its spiritual and historical significance.
