The Giridih Judgeship was established on 16 July 1977 by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Krishna Ballav Narayan Singh, Chief Justice of Patna High Court, with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Shambhu Prasad Singh. Sri Jamilur Rahman became its first District and Sessions Judge, while Sri Narsingh Narayan Sinha served as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Giridih’s judicial presence dates back to 1900-1901, when the Munsif and Munsif Magistrate Courts were established under Ranchi Judgeship, later becoming part of Hazaribagh Judgeship after 1949. The Subordinate Judge Court was inaugurated on 17 April 1973 by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Nand Lal Untwalia, with Sri Madan Mohan Prasad as its first Sub Judge.
Previously, the Sub Divisional Court of Bermo at Tenughat was under Giridih, but later shifted to Bokaro Judgeship. Today, Giridih Civil Courts consist of five buildings, including a Mediation Centre and a Fast Track Court inaugurated in 2005 by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Altamash Kabir.
