The foundation stone of the present court building at Mayabunder was laid in April 1975 by the then Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta Hon’ble Justice Shankar Prasad Mitra and construction of the building was completed in the year 1977. The new court building was inaugurated on 1 April 1975 and the Court of Judicial Magistrate cum Civil Judge (Jr Div) was first chaired by Shri S. Basu. To date, a total of 26 officers of the West, Bengal Judiciary have presided over the chair of JMFC cum Civil Judge (Jr Div).
At present the officer as JMFC Mayabunder is also holding an additional circuit court at Kalra Junction, Diglipur, as Judicial Magistrate cum Civil Judge (Jr Div) which functions once a week on Friday to facilitate the islanders of remote villages around north Andaman who finds it difficult to come to Mayabunder. The Court of JMFC cum Civil Judge (Jr Div) Diglipur was inaugurated by the ZONAL Judge Hon’ble Justice Soumitra Pal on 6 August 2012.
The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Cum Civil Judge (Sr Div) started functioning on 10 February 2012, duly inaugurated by the Zonal judge of Andaman & Nicobar Island, Hon’ble Justice Soumitra Pal on 10 February 2012. Consequent upon commencement of the newly created court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, North and Middle Andaman District at Mayabunder on and from 10 April 2018 followed by Notification no. F.NO. 7-4/2010 Legal dated 14 August 2018 of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. Shri Shailendra Kumar Singh is the present presiding officer as Additional District and Sessions Judge, North and Middle Andaman.
