The Palamau Judgeship, headquartered at Daltonganj, was established on 18th July 1960, with Sri Rash Bihari Aikat as its first District Judge. It became part of the jurisdiction of the Jharkhand High Court on 15 November 2000. The Civil Court’s new building was inaugurated on 13 December 1990 by Hon’ble Chief Justice Sri Gangadhar Ganesh Sohani of Patna High Court. The court complex includes a Video Conferencing Hall, which allows for virtual appearances of under-trial prisoners and witness testimony.
Additional facilities include a triple-storied main building, a fast-track court building, a prosecution cell, and an e-Sewa Kendra. The entire court premises are monitored by CCTV. Medininagar, formerly known as Daltonganj, is the district headquarters of Palamau, with Garhwa and Latehar districts historically being part of Palamau before being separated.
